Just like the longest journey that begins with a single step, so does each sampler begin with a single stitch.  All stitches begin the same way, by sticking the needle first in, then out of the fabric.  The only difference between one type of stitch and the other is where you put that needle and how you manipulate the thread.   - Hands Across The Sea

A Reminder of Grandma Winnie

Grandma Winnie - she still holds a large piece of my heart.  My maternal grandmother had so many strong spiritual gifts and many people were blessed over her 98 years because she used those gifts with wisdom.  Gifts of hospitality, teaching, and evangelism shined through her every day.  Whether it was a visiting missionary home for sabbatical, or the new family at church on a Sunday, her hairdresser or even the stranger she sat next to on the airplane...they knew Grandma's heart had it's foundation in Jesus Christ.
One of my favorite multiple memories of Grandma was of the neighborhood Bible Clubs she held at her house on Watchung lake in New Jersey every summer.  She had crowds of children flock to the house every year to hear Grandma tell them Bible stories.  She mainly used cut out paper characters on a felt-board and then would tell the story as she changed out the scene on the board.  Grandma had a way of making a Bible story come to life.  She often had children on the edge of their seats while she told them of "Daniel and the Lion's Den" or the "Tower of Babel" or "Cain and Abel."  Then we would sing songs, eat cookies and play.  I can't help but wonder how many children came to ask Jesus into their hearts because of Grandma Winnie.

First of the ten panels almost complete!
This pattern is in dedication to Grandma.  The panels in this pattern from Paulette Stewart of Plum Street Samplers tell this unique Bible story between two brothers and remind me of  Grandma's felt-board stories.  The pattern was released back in 2012 but it's a style that never gets old.
When I cross-stitch, I find myself breaking the pattern down into sections for measurement of progress and this paneled-story was perfect for me!
